Support deliver effective control and management of hyperthyroidism in cats.
Hyperthyroidism is common in middle aged cats and is a result of excessive production of thyroid hormones. An enlarged thyroid gland results in excessive production of thyroid hormones T3 and T4 and over suppression of TSH. Hyperthyroidism creates an imbalance of these hormones. If left untreated, this can potentially be life-threatening because the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, nervous and digestive system are all impacted as they are being over stimulated, resulting in an increasing metabolic rate.
Felimazole (Methimazole) coated tablets are indicated for the treatment of hyperthyroidism in cats. 2-3 weeks of treatment are generally needed to establish euthyroidism, the T3 and T4 levels return to normal and bodily functions are restored. Monitor therapy on the basis of serum thyroxine concentrations (4-6 hours after dosing) and adjust dose accordingly for long-term medical management, adjusting dosage as necessary.
